Many thanks to my dear friend who is Greek who gave me this wonderful tzatziki sauce recipe!
Do know that Greeks do not have sour cream. Yogurt is traditionally used in Greece, BUT the sour cream makes it just a teensy bit more tangy and delicious for me!
Use this sauce with pita bread for delicious gyros or a great dipping sauce!
Tzatziki Sauce
This is from a wonderful friend who is Greek! This is the most delicious tzatziki sauce I've ever had. Perfect to go with pita! Recipe calls for sour cream, but traditionally Greeks use yogurt. They do not have sour cream in Greece. Fill free to use plain yogurt instead of sour cream, but I find the sour cream to be just a tad bit more delicious!
Ingredients
- 16 oz sour cream Greek yogurt can be substituted
- 1 English cucumber, cut in half and seeded can use a regular cucumber, but they have more seeds
- 2 TB olive oil
- 2 tsp red wine vinegar
- 4-6 cloves minced garlic you may want more or less garlic. I like to use 6 cloves
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Remove seeds from the cucumber ( I just used a spoon to scoop out the seeds). Grate cucumber.
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl until combined and enjoy!
- If too thick for your tastes, add a little bit of milk to the consistency you want.
