Apple Pie with Freshly Milled Wheat Pie Crust
Ingredients
- 2 pie crusts made with freshly milled wheat see notes below for the recipe!
- 4 cups peeled, cored, sliced apples This is about 4-5 pounds of apples to equal 4 cups. I prefer granny smith apples, but any apple will do!
- 1/2 cup sugar I prefer organic cane sugar
- 1/4 cup freshly milled soft white wheat flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 TB unsalted butter cut into slices or dime-sized bits
Instructions
- Peel, core, and slice apples (see notes below)
- Put sliced apples in pot, cover with water, cook until apples are soft. About 10 minutes.
- Drain apples in colander. Add drained apples back to a bowl.
- To the apples, add your sugar, freshly milled flour, cinnamon, and salt. Gently mix until it is all incorporated.
- Roll out bottom pie crust and place in pie pan. Add the apple mixture to the pie pan.
- Place sliced or cut up butter on top of apple pie mixture.
- Carefully roll out the top pie crust. Place on top of bottom pie crust and apple mixture.
- Crimp edges of pie crust (whatever design you like). Then cut slits on top of pie crust so pie can vent while cooking.
- Place in preheated 450 degree oven and bake for about 40-50 minutes.
- Remove from oven, allow to cool about 10-15 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!
I’m looking forward to making this today. Milled flour in the fridge chilling. Thank you.
My pie was a huge hit at our Thanksgiving dinner! I admit I was nervous about the results at first because the crust seemed more like the crumbly consistency of a soft apple crisp after baking. After setting for almost a day, the consistency was perfect! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! I really enjoy your videos.
Wonderful!!! My pies were the first to go at Thanksgiving this year! lol
Hey all… I am looking for the pie crust receipt. I did not see it in the notes of the recipe? Did I miss it? The note section only speaks of the apples.
