My mother died over a decade ago to cancer. Her favorite sandwich ever was Arby’s French Dip with the au jus sauce.

I happen to agree with her and every time I see a French Dip with Au Just on a menu anywhere, I have to order it. It reminds me of her.

Good news – no need to run out to Arby’s or another restaurant to get a delicious French Dip. You can make it yourself!

This recipe is from the Bread Beckers “Holidays 2007 cookbook. This is my favorite recipe in there!

For the hoagie rolls, just make up some French bread with my recipe here!

Enjoy!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 6 hours
Servings 6 people

Ingredients

  • 1 beef roast around 3lbs
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce or liquid amino acids
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • pepper to taste
  • 8 buns or hoagie style rolls

Instructions

  • Place roast in crockpot.
  • Add water and all other ingredients.
  • Cook on high 5-6 hours or until tender (can also do low around 8 hours)
  • Remove meat and either shred or chop up. Your preference.
  • Slice open hoagie or hamburger buns. Put shredded or sliced swiss cheese on buns, top with hot meat.
  • Serve with a side of au jus sauce (the liquid the meat has been cooking in) and then slap yo' mamma because it is that good (not really. Please respect your mamma. It's just a Southern saying. I am not an advocate of slapping your mammas no matter how good the food is).
