More off-grid cooking from your prepper pantry can be done with this delicious lentil stew!

The great thing about lentils is they cook very fast, but feel free to substitute with whatever bean you choose. I would just soak them overnight first to shorten the cooking time, but it will still take a few hours to cook over a fire.

This recipe is also versatile so feel free to add whatever cooked meat you choose to boost it a bit more!

Lentil Stew

This recipe is so versatile and perfect for off-grid cooking! It can easily be cooked over a stove or campfire!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups lentils any lentil will be fine
  • 1/2 TB garlic powder or 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 TB onion powder or 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/2 TB salt
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 15.5 oz; can use fresh tomatoes or your own canned tomatoes!
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • water

Instructions
 

  • Grab a large enough pot to hold the lentils. Dump all ingredients into pot.
  • Add enough water to cover lentils by about 1 inch.
  • Heat up over fire, grill, or stove top until boiling. Turn down heat and simmer for about 25-30 minutes until done!

Notes

Cooked sausage, chicken, beef, etc can be added to recipe! Because the lentils cook fast, only add meat that's already cooked! Don't add raw meat.
I never measure anything for this recipe, so adjust seasonings to your taste.
Other seasonings to consider: Italian seasoning or creole seasoning
